North Central Florida Forests to Receive Prescribed Burns

Prescribed burns are in the plans for forests throughout the North Central Florida area.

State forest officials say they are conducting prescribed burns to more than 600 acres of the Ocala National Forest, as well as some parts of the Osceola National Forest in Columbia County.

Officials plan prescribed burning during the winter months of the year when temperatures are cooler and trees are in their dormant stage. They say this reduces the stress on the timber and uses less fuel during the process.
