United States U-20s Star Attracting European Interest after Strong World Cup

The United States‘ Under-20 World Cupcampaign ended Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Uruguay at the quarterfinal stage, and it’s time for the members of a talented squad to make their way back to their club sides — many of which are in Major League Soccer.

But captain Daniel Edelman might not be staying at his club, New York Red Bulls for much longer, as the midfielder is reportedly on many a European team’s radar.

Edelman attracting interest after strong tournament

A product of New York‘s youth academy, Edelman played parts of three seasons with Red Bulls II in the second-tier USL Championship. He debuted for the first team during the 2022 season and ended up appearing in 16 games — starting 10 — and scoring one goal in 993 MLS minutes.

Edelman, 20, is considered a rising star in MLS and made 15 appearances for the U-20 side — a stint that ended with the World Cup in Argentina. He started in central midfield in three of the USYNT‘s five games at the tournament.

With rumored interest in Edelman emerging from the Eredivisie, the league could soon house a couple of the United States’ most intriguing prospects.

Edelman might even play in the same team as forward Ricardo Pepi, who has already made 14 appearances for the USMNT and has been linked with Feyenoord and PSV. Feyenoord qualified directly for the UEFA Champions League group stage by winning the league, while PSV will enter the competition in the third qualifying round.
